How to combine the vintage look with bohemian style?
Hello and welcome to you, dear bohemian! You probably already know: the mode has always existed, but continues to develop, change, renew and reinvent itself over time, combining materials, of the cuts, combinations and colors thus creating new trends !
Today we are going to talk about fashion, but more particularly about two clothing styles: vintage style associated with bohemian style
Vintage style represents fashion from the 20s to the 80s and concerns clothing, accessories, jewelry, shoes, sunglasses, hairstyle, but also decoration! Its aim is to dress oneself with clothes and accessories, but also to buy objects that are old or that look like one. As you will have understood, vintage fashion does not only include vintage dresses, pantsuits or pin up style. It's a state of mind and one lifestyle... like the bohemian universe!
Let's talk about it: the bohemian and hippie style above all refers to the lifestyle of the nomads/hippies of the sixties and seventies who traveled in vans and had a simple life, a life on the roads, a life of artists.
Add to this the hippie movement of the 60s which appeared in the United States. It is a movement of rejection of the consumer society, traditional customs and an obsolete way of life.
The dress style bohemian and hippie translates into colorful, fluid, comfortable clothes, in natural materials and a romantic look. As for the look vintage, this style is not just about clothes and also includes accessories and decoration!
The bohemian style is often associated with style hippie, car they agree on several aspects such as the desire for a comfortable, simple, but colorful and patterned look, with numerous accessories and jewelry. The hippie look is more focused on a Native American western style with feathers, fringes, sunglasses, brown suede effect and leather. The bohemian look is very relaxed, floral, fluid with light materials: cotton, lace, mesh, silk with ethnic touches.
VINTAGE LOOK AND BOHEMIAN STYLE: TWO DIFFERENT STYLES, BUT WITH IDENTICAL HIGHLIGHTS
These two clothing styles have points in common, because over the years fashion evolves and renews itself, but some pieces remain timeless and stand the test of time, styles and eras!
DENIM: AN ESSENTIAL MATERIAL OF BOHEMIAN AND VINTAGE FASHIONThe jean : everyone knows this material, especially in the form of blue denim pants, shorts or denim jacket. You can also find them in a handbag, in overalls, in a skirt... in short, jeans are a must-have in your wardrobe, whatever your style! It is a timeless and trendy material that goes very well with many other pieces that you may have in your wardrobe. We find the jeans in the vintage style with beautiful retro jeans, an oversized denim jacket or simply denim shorts. We can also have these pieces in bohemian fashion where the denim jacket will for example be embroidered, with fringes or ethnic prints.
THE LEATHER PERFECTO: A TIMELESS OF VINTAGE AND BOHEMIAN FASHIONThe perfect in leather dates from the interwar years and is the invention of two Russian brothers named Schott living in New York. Their goal is to invent rain gear, which will then be adapted and designed as a jacket for bikers. This jacket is very successful because it is durable, resistant and of good quality. It bears the name “Perfecto”, the name of Irving Schott’s favorite cigar brand. The Perfecto is sold in particular in motorcycle stores like Harley-Davidson, and is one of the symbols of the biker look.
It is a sought-after piece in vintage fashion, because it is always very trendy and then considered timeless while giving a little rock look to an outfit.
This style of jacket is available in bohemian fashion as a brown suede jacket with stripes for a look hippie.
PRINTS AND PATTERNS: FOR A VINTAGE AND BOHEMIAN LOOKWhether they are polka dot, floral, striped, leopard (animal), ethnic, geometric or even Aztec, the prints and patterns are clearly present in these two clothing styles. Vintage dresses are known for being colorful with white polka dots or floral patterns. These same floral prints are also ultra trendy for bohemian fashion, found on kimonos, long skirts, dresses, bandanas, jumpsuits and blouses.
In the bohemian style you will find these prints a lot, it is also one of the characteristics of this fashion.
FLARED TROUSERS: TYPICAL OF VINTAGE STYLE, BUT ALSO BOHEMIANThere are many flared cuts of trousers: carrot, bell bottom, bootcut, cigarette, chino, wide… The choice is vast and the possibilities are multiple! These rather vintage pants cuts go well with the bohemian style.
Do not hesitate to associate your bell-bottom pants vintage with pieces of another style. For example, you can wear your bell-bottom denim pants with a brown cotton shirt, a hat, boots and a fringed handbag.
TUNICS, BLOUSES AND BLOUSESTHE tunics, shirts, blouses and blouses have long been anchored in the traditional and essential codes of women's fashion. Unlike blouses, shirts and blouses have a collar. Many models exist, some very classic, others much more feminine with puffed sleeves, lace details or elegant buttoning, breaking the masculine style of the shirt.
On the vintage side we find a lot of these pieces with a very classic, but timeless presentation.
In bohemian fashion, blouses and tunics are also present with color, prints and original details, notably the embroidery, from lace, of the pompoms and puffed or flared sleeves.
HOW TO COMBINE THE STYLE OF TWO TIMES: VINTAGE AND BOHEMIAN
If you love vintage and bohemian style without being able to settle on one of these fashion styles, know that it is entirely possible to combine the two!
These styles date from different eras, each with a representation of fashion, which does not prevent them from having similar timeless pieces.
For an association vintage/ bohemian, it is entirely possible to mix pieces from these two styles in the same look.
For example for a bohemian/retro look: shorts in jean vintage heather, combined with a pretty bohemian embroidered blouse.
For a vintage look, wear a white blouse with a vintage floral skirt, derbies and for a bohemian touch, a hat or a crown of flowers in the hair.
You can have a strong piece of vintage style like a polka dot dress and accessorize with bohemian elements like a scarf tied in the hair, some hippie earrings and espadrilles for a romantic side.
It can also be the opposite with two strong bohemian pieces like a long floral skirt with a mesh top and two others in vintage style: denim jacket and vintage handbag.
Don’t hesitate to dare, test, show imagination and creativity to create trendy looks, both vintage and bohemian: styles that have personality and charisma, just like you!
