How to combine vintage look with bohemian style?

Hello and welcome to you dear bohemian! You surely already know: the fashion has always existed, but continues to develop, change, renew, and reinvent itself over time, combining materials, of cuts, combinations and colors thus creating new trends

Today we are going to talk about fashion, but more specifically about two clothing styles: the vintage style associated with bohemian style.

The vintage style represents fashion from the 20s to the 80s and concerns clothing, accessories, jewelry, shoes, sunglasses, hairstyles, but also decoration! Its purpose is to dress in clothes, accessories, but also to buy items that are old or look old. As you will have understood, vintage fashion does not only include vintage dresses, pantsuits, or pin-up style. It is a state of mind and a lifestyle... like bohemian universe!

Let's talk about it: the bohemian and hippie style primarily refers to the lifestyle of the nomads/hippies of the sixties and seventies who traveled in vans and led a simple life, a life on the road, an artist's life.

In addition, there is the hippie movement of the 60s that emerged in the United States. It is a movement rejecting consumer society, traditional customs, and an outdated way of life.

The dress style bohemian and hippie translates to colorful, flowing, comfortable clothing made from natural materials and a romantic appearance. Like the vintage look, this style is not limited to clothing and also includes accessories and decoration!

The bohemian style is often associated with hippie style, car they converge on several aspects such as the desire for a comfortable, simple, yet colorful and patterned look, with numerous accessories and jewelry. The hippie look is more oriented towards a Western Native American style with feathers, fringes, sunglasses, in brown suede and leather. The bohemian look is very relaxed, floral, fluid with light materials: cotton, lace, knit, silk with ethnic touches.

VINTAGE LOOK AND BOHEMIAN STYLE: TWO DIFFERENT STYLES, BUT WITH IDENTICAL STRONG PIECES

These two clothing styles have common points, as over the years fashion evolves, renews itself, but some pieces remain truly timeless and transcend time, styles, and eras!

DENIM: A MUST-HAVE MATERIAL IN BOHEMIAN AND VINTAGE FASHION

The denim: everyone knows this material, especially in the form of blue denim pants, shorts, or denim jackets. It can also be found in handbags, overalls, skirts... in short, denim is a must-have in your wardrobe, whatever your style! It is a timeless and trendy material that pairs very well with many other pieces you may have in your closet. Denim can be found in the vintage style with a nice retro jean, an oversized denim jacket, or simply a pair of denim shorts. You can also find these pieces in bohemian fashion where the denim jacket will be, for example, embroidered, with fringes, or ethnic prints.

THE LEATHER PERFECTO: A TIMELESS PIECE OF VINTAGE AND BOHEMIAN FASHION

The leather perfecto dates back to the years between the wars and is the invention of two Russian brothers named Schott living in New York. They aimed to invent a rain garment, which would later be adapted and designed as a jacket for motorcyclists. This jacket is very successful because it is durable, resistant, and of good quality. It is named 'Perfecto,' the name of Irving Schott's favorite cigar brand. The Perfecto is notably sold in motorcycle shops like Harley-Davidson and is one of the symbols of the biker look.

It is a sought-after piece in vintage fashion, as it is always very trendy and considered timeless while giving a little rock look to an outfit.

This style of jacket is available in bohemian fashion as a brown suede jacket with fringes for a hippie look.

PRINTS AND PATTERNS: FOR A VINTAGE AND BOHEMIAN LOOK

Whether they are polka dots, flowers, stripes, leopard (animal prints), ethnic, geometric, or even Aztec, the prints and patterns are indeed present in these two clothing styles. Vintage dresses are known for being colorful with white polka dots or floral patterns. These same floral prints are also ultra trendy for bohemian fashion, which can be found on kimonos, long skirts, dresses, bandanas, jumpsuits, and blouses.

In the bohemian style, you will find many of these prints; it is, by the way, one of the characteristics of this fashion.

THE FLARED PANT: TYPICAL OF VINTAGE STYLE, BUT ALSO BOHEMIAN

There are many flared cuts of pants: carrot, flared, bootcut, cigarette, chino, wide... The choice is vast and the possibilities are numerous! These vintage pant cuts pair well with the bohemian style.

Don't hesitate to pair your flared pants vintage with pieces from another style. For example, you can wear your flared jeans with a brown cotton shirt, a hat, boots, and a fringed handbag.

TUNICS, SHIRTS, AND BLOUSES

The tunics, shirts, blouses, and blouses are long anchored in the traditional and essential codes of women's fashion. Unlike blouses, shirts and blouses have a collar. Many models exist, some very classic, others much more feminine with puffy sleeves, lace details, or elegant buttoning, breaking the masculine style of the shirt.

On the vintage side, we find many of these pieces with a very classic but timeless presentation.

In bohemian fashion, blouses and tunics are also present with color, prints, and original details, notably from the embroidery, of the lace, pom poms and puffy or flared sleeves.

HOW TO COMBINE THE STYLE OF TWO ERAS: VINTAGE AND BOHEMIAN

If you love vintage and bohemian without being able to position yourself on one of these clothing styles, know that it is quite possible to combine the two!

These styles date from different eras, each with its own representation of fashion, which does not prevent them from having timeless similar pieces.

For a combination vintage/bohemian, it is quite possible to mix pieces from these two styles in the same look.

For example, for a bohemian/retro look: a shorts in vintage jeans flea market find, paired with a pretty bohemian embroidered blouse.

For a vintage look, wear a white blouse with a vintage floral skirt, derbies, and for a bohemian touch, a hat or a flower crown in the hair.

You can have a strong piece of vintage style like a polka dot dress and accessorize with bohemian elements like a scarf tied in the hair, some hippie earrings and espadrilles for a romantic touch.

It can also be the opposite with two strong bohemian pieces like a long floral skirt with a knit top and two other vintage styles: denim jacket and vintage handbag.

Don't hesitate to dare, test, and show imagination and creativity to create trendy looks that are both vintage and bohemian: styles that have personality and charisma, all in your image!
